Environmental Assessments

The existence of toxic substances creates the potential for adverse impact on human health or the environment.  Thus, environmental site assessments (ESAs) are undertaken in response to known pollution events and carried out as an integral part of the due diligence process for property acquisition and divestment.

ESAs characterise the nature, extent and magnitude of any problems and when contamination is found to exist, the findings are used to establish appropriate soil and groundwater remediation methods and to estimate the financial liability associated with an environmental issue.

ESAs generally consist of:

  • Soil sampling (Soil vapour readings / survey)
  • Groundwater sample collection
  • Soil bore advancement
  • Well installation and monitoring
  • Assessment of groundwater flow characteristics
  • Analysis of soil and groundwater analytical results
  • An assessment of risk posed to potential receptors

Alliance diligently monitors and stays abreast of any changes to national and state regulations ensuring assessments comply fully with the requirements of the respective state and federal regulations and guidelines.

Common encountered contaminants may include:

  • Hydrocarbons
  • Heavy Metals
  • Chlorinated solvents
  • PCBs
  • Pesticides and herbicides
  • Asbestos
  • Acid Sulphate Soils
  • DDD / DDT

Alliance is experienced in conducting soil and groundwater investigations across a range of industries including:

  • Industrial
  • Petrochemical / service stations, depots, terminals
  • Commercial
  • Manufacturing
  • Residential

Once an ESA has been conducted, Alliance can help you develop strategies to respond to the findings.  This provides a scientifically credible basis for determining remediation activities and establishing and negotiating realistic clean-up goals.
